Everything people usually ask before sleeping on a pillow made of wood. Something missing? Email us at support@necksleep.com.
The Zhuyun is filled with 2,970 g (±50 g) of seven natural materials: bamboo beads (2,400 g), cork oak bark granules (280 g), Swartzia wood (80 g), wenge (80 g), red sequoia wood (60 g), fragrant cedar (35 g) and bodhi seeds (35 g). There is no foam or synthetic fill. The fill is sealed inside a German Evolon® anti-mite fabric casing, and two Turkish-fabric pillowcases are included. Full story on the Materials page.
It is deliberately firm — the beads are rigid hollow shells, so they don't compress like foam. The loose fill still molds to the shape of your head and neck, so pressure is spread rather than concentrated. Most sleepers adapt over the first several nights (full adjustment can take up to two weeks), and your first pillow is covered by a 30-night trial if firm support turns out not to suit you.
It's built not to. There is no foam block inside to trap heat: every bead is hollow, and the loose fill leaves air channels between the beads, so air keeps moving through the pillow all night. If memory foam sleeps hot for you, this is the opposite construction.
Give it up to two weeks. Many sleepers settle in within several nights; as a rule of thumb, sleepers under 30 often need 7–10 nights, ages 30–40 about 5–7 nights, and over 50 often just 1–3 nights. You can sleep on it all night from day one; if the change feels abrupt, alternate with your old pillow at first. More in the usage guide.
The loose beads shift and settle gradually as you sleep — that's how a loose-fill pillow works, and it isn't a defect. Support comes from gathering the beads under your neck (roughly 80% of the fill); when the shape feels lower, just re-gather them — it takes a few seconds. And unlike foam, the beads themselves don't break down or lose firmness. See Shape it first in the usage guide.
Yes. The fill is loose: push beads toward or away from the neck edge to change the profile, use the lower end of the pillow for a lower profile, or fold the tail end over or under to add a firm extra layer of height.
Yes. Side sleepers usually push extra fill to their sleeping side for a higher, firmer cradle, or add a fold for height, so the neck stays level between head and shoulder.
Your trial runs for 30 nights from the day your pillow is delivered. If you decide it's not for you, contact us within that period; once your request is approved we refund the full purchase price to your original payment method. The trial applies to one pillow per household, on your first order. Full terms here.
No. Approved trial refunds do not require you to return the pillow to China. Returning a 3 kg pillow internationally costs more than it helps anyone, so we simply don't ask.
Orders ship from China directly to U.S. addresses. Shipping is free, and the listed price is all-inclusive: duties and taxes are prepaid by us (DDP), so there is nothing extra to pay on delivery. See the shipping policy.
Never wash the inner pillow — the wood fill must stay dry. Keep it in a dry, ventilated place and air it regularly. The included pillowcases are removable and machine-washable.
Yes, lightly, when it's new — the fill includes aromatic cedar and sequoia. The scent is natural (no fragrances are added) and fades with airing over the first days of use.
No. The Zhuyun is a comfort and support pillow, not a medical device, and it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition. It is designed to give your head and neck firm, stable support and help you maintain a comfortable sleep posture. If you have a diagnosed neck or spine condition, consult your clinician before changing pillows.
The casing is Evolon®, a microfilament fabric by Freudenberg (Germany). Its weave is so dense that dust mites cannot pass through it, so the protection is a physical property of the fabric itself — there is no anti-mite chemical treatment on the pillow.
